More About Our Austin HVAC Repair Services

Comprehensive HVAC System Diagnostics

At Stan’s Heating, Air, Plumbing & Electrical, we believe the first step in successful HVAC repair is identifying the root cause of the problem. When you schedule your heating or AC repair service with Stan's, our technicians will perform a 20-point diagnostic test to pinpoint any issues with your heating, ventilation, or cooling system. During our diagnostic inspection, we’ll check:

  • System static pressure for efficient air flow
  • Refrigerant circuit to ensure correct refrigerant levels
  • Electrical circuits for suitable voltage and amperage draw
  • Overall installation to ensure it was done without errors
  • Properly maintained air filters for optimal indoor air quality

Based on the findings of our diagnostic, your Stan’s technician will provide you with a cost estimate to repair your HVAC system before getting started on any necessary repairs. If your heating or AC system cannot be repaired, we also perform system replacements and can upgrade you to a more energy-efficient model. We're always looking out for our customers and will recommend the best option to help you save money, keep your Austin home comfortable, and leave you completely satisfied. Why Choose Stan’s?

At Stan’s Heating, Air, Plumbing & Electrical we have over 50 years of experience in providing quality air conditioning and heating system repair services throughout the Austin area. Our locally-owned HVAC company has seen a lot of growth since the 1950s, but what's never changed is our dedication to providing excellent customer service. We set the bar for Austin HVAC services and make our customers our top priority. From providing timely and accurate HVAC repairs and preventative maintenance to offering financing options for homeowners who need a new system, you can rely on us to keep your home cool (or warm) and comfortable year-round.

Our Whole House Approach

Something else that sets us apart from other heating and AC repair service providers is that we look at the whole system before performing any as-needed repairs. By looking at all the aspects of your heating and AC system, including your air ducts, thermostats, air conditioners, furnaces, and more, we can ensure that any heating or air conditioning issue is fixed entirely. This “whole house approach,” as we call it, leads to a better HVAC system, improved energy efficiency, lower monthly energy bills, and a reduced carbon footprint for your entire home. Plus, by addressing potential problems before they become more serious issues, we can help you avoid the need for costly emergency repairs and other services.

Common HVAC Issues

Clogged Drain Lines

All AC systems have drain lines that remove condensation produced by the evaporator coil. When these lines are clogged, humidity can increase in the home, causing damage and potentially triggering allergies. Mold and algae can also form and result in musty odors that are hard to eliminate.

Malfunctioning Circuitry

Heating and cooling systems use electric circuitry to control their various functions. While simple systems may only turn on/off, more advanced HVAC units may have multiple-speed blowers, reversing valves for heat pumps, dehumidification functions, emergency heating elements, and many more features. Bad circuitry can completely disable a system and may require a circuit board replacement for the system to work properly again.

Bad Capacitors

A capacitor gives the motors in an HVAC unit the power boost they need to get moving. HVAC capacitors are small cylindrical devices that store and release electrical energy. When the thermostat signals the air-conditioning system to lower air temperature a whole sequence of events begins. Unfortunately, if your capacitors fail, your whole system can break down. A failed capacitor will prevent a motor from starting and result in a total system malfunction.

Faulty Motors

Air conditioner systems typically have a few motors that need to be checked from time to time. For instance, the blower motor powers the fan. It moves air from the return air vents across the evaporator coil and through the supply grills to cool the home. Additionally, the condenser outside houses a compressor with a motor to pump refrigerant. The condenser fan motor moves air across the outdoor coils to dispel the heat that is generated from compressing the refrigerant. If any of these motors malfunction, your air conditioner will not operate correctly until it is repaired.

Refrigerant Leaks

HVAC systems operate with refrigerant in a closed-loop system. Ideally, the same refrigerant will last as long as the system does. But if a refrigerant leak develops, you can lose refrigerant, causing the air conditioner to not work as effectively. For your heating and cooling system to work properly, you'll need an HVAC technician to find the leak, repair it, and replace any lost refrigerant.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need HVAC repair?

Common signs that indicate your HVAC might need to be repaired include your heater or air conditioner not cooling properly, strange noises coming from your equipment, or a sudden increase in your utility bills. An experienced technician can assess whether you need a repair or a replacement when they visit your home.

Why is my A/C broken?

There are several reasons why your Austin AC unit might be broken, including lack of routine maintenance, old or faulty equipment, and wear and tear over time. It's important to schedule AC tune-ups and maintain your air conditioning unit to prevent unexpected breakdowns, but routine maintenance doesn't guarantee that your AC unit won't encounter issues. Our certified AC repair technicians can inspect your AC unit and diagnose the specific cause.

What If my HVAC unit cannot be repaired?

If your HVAC unit cannot be repaired due to severe damage or it being economically unfeasible, we may recommend an HVAC replacement. We'll consider your air quality needs, the size of your home, and your budget to suggest a suitable replacement unit.

How much does air conditioning repair cost in Austin?

The cost of air conditioning repair in Austin varies depending on the complexity of the job and the parts needed. We can provide you with an accurate estimate after we've fully assessed the cause of your AC problems. We also offer affordable pricing and financing options to help make repairs more manageable for our customers. Contact us today to schedule an inspection and get a quote for your air conditioning repair needs in Austin.

It may also involve tune-ups to improve your overall air quality and performance, regular maintenance to prevent future problems, or the recommendation of an AC replacement to help you save money if repairs aren't a reasonable option.

How can I tell I need air conditioning repair?

There are many tell-tale signs that your air conditioning needs repair, including an AC system blowing warm air, a thermostat not working, minimal air blowing from vents, loud noises and/or strange odors coming from the AC unit, and an overly humid household.
