Rebates and Tax
Credits AUSTIN ENERGY'S ENERGY EFFICIENCY REBATE AND LOAN PROGRAMSHomes older than ten years old can benefit greatly from a review of their energy usage. Austin Energy's HOME PERFORMANCE WITH ENERGY STAR® Programs covers up to 20% of the cost of certain energy efficiency improvements -- up to $1575. Rebates are included on air conditioner or heat pump units that meet certain efficiency standards, as well as on duct repair and sealing. The air conditioner/heat pump rebates range from $180.00 - $650.00.
In addition, Austin Energy makes low-interest loans that are unsecured and do not require a lien on the property. Your Stan's salesman can help you configure the best system to meet your needs and to maximize the saving available from Austin Energy.
Please note you can apply for either a rebate or a loan, but not both. And be aware that these programs are available on a first-come, first-serve basis.
In addition, Austin Energy has a Power Saver Program that offers a free
programmable thermostat plus installation and warranty. Austin Energy considers this package a $200.00- $280.00 value.
This program requires the homeowner to allow Austin Energy to "cycle" your air conditioner with others. There
is also a $25.00 one-time bonus for single-family customers agreeing to an extra five minutes of cycle-off time. According
to Austin Energy, "this option is great for homes with multiple central air conditioners and/or customers not home during
the day." FEDERAL TAX CREDITSUnder the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 consumers can receive a tax credit in 2009 and 2010 on their federal tax return for 30% of the cost of installing an Energy Star HVAC system, up to $1500.00. Cost includes installation labor costs.
In addition, geothermal heat pump installations receive the same 30% credit through 2016 with no upper limit on the costs of the system.
Stan's can discuss with you the benefits of a conventional HVAC system vs. a geothermal system and can
install either system to meet your air quality needs.
