WHAT IS GEOTHERMAL? A GEOTHERMAL system transfers heat from your home to the earth in the cooling operation or/and heat from the earth to your home in the heating operation. The earth has the ability to absorb and store heat. In the winter, the earth's heat is used to heat your home. While in the summer, the indoor heat is transfered from your home to the earth.
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) states that geothermal systems are "the most energy-efficient, environmentally clean, and cost-effective space conditioning systems available today." Since a geothermal heat pump only uses electricity to move the heat, high levels of efficiency are achieved. Geothermal heat pumps also benefit from the mild ground temperature. In Texas, the ground temperature normally stays between 68 to 72 degrees. Geothermal technology provides the most efficient cooling and heating systems on the market today.
