Company History

History
Stan Johnson, Sr. was born on April 6, 1926 in Austin, TX.  He attended Austin schools until 1944, when the 17 year old enlisted in the Navy.  He spent World War II in the Pacific Theater landing troops on virtually every major island.  He was recently honored by the Texas Senate as a survivor of Iwo Jima.

When Stan got back from the war, he worked several odd jobs until 1950 when he began working for a commercial air conditioning contractor in Austin, TX; installing wall and floor furnaces, evaporative coolers, and weather stripping.

After four years of working in the HVAC industry, Stan Sr., decided that Central Texas needed a high quality HVAC service company and that he was the man for that job.  So in 1954 Stan’s Heating and Air Conditioning was created out of the family home at the corner of Denson Drive and Guadalupe. Stan Jr. remembers being in charge of sweeping the office/garage and carrying tools for his dad.  Stan. Sr. would buy used Chevrolet carryall and pickups which Stan, Sr. and Stan, Jr. spray-painted in their backyard.  Stan Jr. remembers the very first company vehicle was a 1949 Ford “Woody” station wagon.  Today, Stan’s vehicles are still recognized all over town with the Stan’s logo on the side.

Originally, Stan’s Heating and Air Conditioning was created as an HVAC service company.  However in the 1960’s after moving headquarters to 6700 Guadalupe, Stan’s moved into the new construction business along with service and existing home installation. The company quickly started growing.  In 1972, Stan Johnson Jr. came to work for the company after having spent time teaching and working for Houston Lighting and Power.  Stan, Sr. and Stan, Jr. worked together in the business for over 15 years.

In 1987 Stan Sr. retired from Stan’s Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. to his home in Elgin, TX.  There he and his wife, Ada, continued to work in the A/C business servicing long-time friends and customers in that area, and he only recently let his license expire to retire for good.

Stan Jr. took the company over from his father and has remained president for the past 20 years.  The company has grown to be over 20 times larger than it was coming out of the late 1980’s recession. Stan’s began to realize that indoor air quality was a growing concern to homeowners, and began to offer cutting-edge HVAC solutions such as HEPA air filters, UV lighting,  2 speed condensers, variable speed furnaces, and most notably was one of the first HVAC business to offer the Puron (R410A) system which is a much more environmentally friendly alternative to Freon 22.

In 2003 Stan’s moved to its current location at 11700 Stonehollow Drive in North Austin.  The company still continues to grow and provides quality service, replacement and new construction installation to the Central Texas Area.

Company Mission
